Mentor Coaching Essentials - 10 hours
towards the NEW ICF Mentor Coaching Specialization
A Developmental Mentor Coach Training Experience

In April 2026 ICF announced the new Mentor Coach Specialization which will come into effect in April 2027. As a provider of Mentor Coaching since 2007, we are proud to start offering training for the MCS starting in June 2026. This will be of interest for current Mentor Coaches, who have supported five mentor coaching clients for ICF credentialing in the last 3 years (10 hours of trianing required) OR ASPIRING Mentor Coaches (who will need to complete a total of 41 hours - these 10 hours will serve the foundation for that)

Starting June 2026 we are offering the Prior Learning Pathway, 10 hour training, over 7 live 90-minute conversations.

Aligned with the emerging ICF Mentor Coaching Competencies and the Mentor Coach Specialization (MCS) Prior Learning Credit pathway, this interactive live online program explores:
  • developmental mentor coaching,
  • reflective practice,
  • formative appraisal,
  • facilitation of client skill development,
  • calibration,
  • group mentor coaching dynamics,
  • and mentor coach practicum.
At the end of the program you will have met the requirements for the Prior Learning Pathway for the MCS. Note you will also need to complete the ICF required training for ACC or PCC, and also have documented proof of mentoring 5 people towards their ACC or PCC in the last 3 years.

What Is the Mentor Coach Specialization (MCS)?

The ICF Mentor Coach Specialization (MCS) is an emerging professional specialization recognizing advanced capability in mentor coaching.
The specialization highlights the growing importance of:
  • developmental learning,
  • reflective practice,
  • ethical mentor coaching practice,
  • formative feedback,
  • and facilitation of coaching growth over time.
As the coaching profession continues to evolve, mentor coaching is increasingly recognized as more than:
  • credential preparation,
  • competency correction,
  • or evaluation alone.
Developmental mentor coaching supports:
  • sustainable coaching growth,
  • reflective integration,
  • coaching discernment,
  • ethical practice,
  • and professional capability development over time.

This program is designed as:
mentor coach education aligned with the emerging Mentor Coaching Competencies and the MCS Prior Learning Credit pathway.

Why This Program?
Most mentor coach education focuses primarily on:
  • competency review,
  • evaluation,
  • and credential preparation.

This pathway expands the conversation to include:
  • developmental mentor coaching,
  • reflective practice,
  • systems awareness,
  • formative appraisal,
  • facilitation of coach skill development,
  • calibration,
  • and group mentor coaching dynamics.

Participants not only explore the Mentor Coaching Competencies --
they also strengthen their ability to:
facilitate awareness, reflection, learning, discernment, and sustainable coaching growth in others, with a focus on group and team coaching.

What Makes This Different?

Designed Specifically for Group and Team Coaches
Unlike many mentor coach education pathways focused primarily on one-to-one coaching contexts, this program is specifically designed for:
  • group coaches,
  • team coaches,
  • systems-oriented coaches,
  • ACTC-track coaches,
  • and coaches working within increasingly complex coaching environments
While mentor coaching is still primarily focused on 1-1 conversations, we will be expanding the dialogue to focus on the landscape of coaching many.

This program for those undertaking the Prior Learning Pathway explores:
  • group mentor coaching,
  • systems awareness,
  • collective learning,
  • facilitation dynamics,
  • and many-to-many coaching environments.

Live Cohort-Based Learning

One of the richest aspects of the experience is the opportunity to:
  • connect,
  • reflect,
  • practice,
  • calibrate,
  • and learn alongside other experienced coaches.
Participants consistently value:
  • reflective dialogue,
  • peer learning,
  • developmental conversations,
  • diverse coaching perspectives,
  • and the opportunity to grow together in community.
This is not passive or self-paced learning.

It is designed as:
a live developmental learning experience grounded in dialogue, observation, reflection, and application.

Practicum, Calibration & Reflective Integration

Throughout the series, participants engage in:
  • mentor coaching practicum,
  • peer developmental feedback,
  • calibration discussions,
  • reflective observation,
  • and applied mentor coaching conversations.
The goal is not simply to understand the competencies but to strengthen:
confidence, discernment, developmental awareness, and mentor coaching capability in practice.

What Else May Be Required for the MCS Pathway (PRIOR LEARNING CREDIT)
Participants are encouraged to review the current ICF requirements related to the Mentor Coach Specialization (MCS), including:
  • evaluation training requirements,
  • credential prerequisites,
  • mentor coaching experience requirements,
  • and any additional documentation required by the ICF.

You will need to complete the BARS, or PCC Markers through ICF separately. This will be an additional cost for you.

mentor coach education aligned with the emerging Mentor Coaching Competencies and Prior Learning Credit pathway.Participants remain responsible for reviewing and meeting any current ICF application requirements.

Haven't already mentored 5 mentor coaching clients over the last 3 years? Join us for the more extended 41 hour training which will be starting in summer 2026. You can apply these 10 hours as the beginning of a more extended training (31 more hours) for those who have not mentor coached before.

What Is the Value of the MCS?

The Mentor Coach Specialization reflects the growing importance of:
  • developmental learning,
  • reflective practice,
  • coaching discernment,
  • mentor coaching capability,
  • and facilitation of sustainable coaching growth.

As organizations, teams, and coaches navigate increasing complexity, mentor coaches play an important role in supporting:
  • ethical coaching practice,

The MCS pathway also creates opportunities for coaches to:
